Welcome to your newsletter for week ending March 21st

We've ended the week with our usual Values Assemblies and then another super musical event, this time with our young violinists performing some fabulous pieces in front of parents; read on for more details!

As we head towards the Easter break, things remain as busy as ever in school- please keep an eye on the 'what's coming up' section below and the website calendar to make sure you don't miss anything.

A huge thank you to all the parents who put themselves forward for the Parent Governor position; we were over-the-moon with the number of nominations and we are pleased to let you know that Mrs Neringa Collier has been successful in securing the post. We look forward to introducing Neringa to you more formally in a future newsletter.  Thank you to all the families that took part in the ballot.

We know from speaking to our families that bedtimes can be a difficult time and a source of anxiety for the whole family.

Sleep is important for all of us, but even more so for children and young people.  A good deal of a child’s brain growth and development occur during sleep.

What happens during sleep:

  • Children are always learning from their school day to finding out who they are, the brain makes sense of these things while we sleep.  Our memories are processed and stored in our long term memory while we sleep
  • It is estimated that   75% of growth hormone is released during deep sleep, this is also released during exercise.
  • When we sleep our heart rate and blood pressure go down meaning our heart gets time to replenish and rest
  • Helps us to produce proteins used by the body to fight infection, illness and stress

’Sleep Hygiene,’ this is a term used to describe habits and strategies for getting a goodnights sleep.  There are lots of things you can try to improve bedtimes for the whole family , click on the links below to organisations that can  offer some helpful tips and advice.

We have also included a leaflet on supporting children with have difficulty sleeping due to anxiety and calming strategies to try with your children.

If you are concerned about your child’s sleep or their anxiety and feel you may need additional support or advice, please don’t hesitate to contact the team by calling the school office, email at  [email protected] or why not pop along to one of our Tuesday Drop-Ins in the Cottage -3.30pm-4.30pm.  You can also contact your GP or the School Nurse  https://www.bhamcommunity.nhs.uk/school-health-support-service/

Some children have difficulties in the way in which they process sensory information. For example, some children’s systems can take in too much information so they become overwhelmed by their environment. If your child has a tendency to be overstimulated, please follow the below link to explore ways you can support your child's sensory needs:

As you will have noticed I (Mrs Cooper!) am keen to get the school doors open as early as possible in the morning!  Although school doesn't officially open until 8:40am, we have been welcoming children in as soon as staff briefing ends just after 8:30am. We are mindful that we have been cutting down on teachers' precious minutes for getting resources etc ready in the morning so going forward, please don't worry if you don't see the doors open until just before 8:40am.

And finally...

Another reminder to check items of uniform are named. With the weather warming up, many children take off coats and jumpers at lunchtimes and then forget to pick them up before returning to class. We now have several over-flowing boxes of coats, jumpers, cardigans and fleeces... all without names! We know uniform is expensive so please, please write names on labels and check periodically to make sure they haven't been washed off.

We hope the sunshine stay with you over the weekend.

Take care all and see you on Monday.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
