Welcome to your newsletter for week ending March 28th

Good afternoon families- we hope some of you have been able to enjoy some of the spring sunshine today! We've got lots of information below for you to read and digest, so we'll keep this bit fairly short!

As always, it's great to end the week with our values assemblies and celebrate those children going over and above to show compassion. Also today, Mr King took one of our Year 6 Football teams to a tournament, in which they did incredibly well- read on for more details.

As the weather warms up (slightly!) children have been making the most of our outside space; the MUGA is being used for PE lessons and for sport at lunchtimes and each Friday the front grass area and wooded area along Linden Road is transformed into forest school for our Reception children. We know 'forest school' can benefit children of all ages, and in September we are hoping to employ our own Forest School Lead so we can give more children across school the opportunity to take part in sessions- keep your eyes open for more info later in the Summer term.

Celebrating Our Cultures... No.2!

We are looking forward to our 2nd Celebrating our Cultures Day next Friday, 4th April.

As was the case in for our first day of cultural celebrations, children can wear their own clothes- we'd love to see children wearing clothes and accessories that represent families' cultures and heritage, however if children prefer they can of course wear their usual school uniform or 'own clothes' of their choice.

Towards the end of the day, our Year 6 children will be performing 3 pieces of drama based on stories from the travelling exhibition 'City of Empire to City of Diversity', that we recently had in school. Year 6 parents are invited to see this at 2:30pm. If there are families from other year groups that would be particularly interested in seeing this, we should be able to fit you in! The performance will be in the George Hall.

At 3pm, our Year 4 children will be performing a 'flash mob' style dance combining three different styles of dance. Weather permitting, this will be outside on the top playground. If the children are outside, all parents are welcome to come and watch- if we're inside though, please can we prioritise Year 4 parents.

And then finally, at the end of the school day (3:20pm), we will be welcoming you into the George Hall to share any type of food that is important to you as a family. This could be because of its cultural or religious significance or purely because it's a firm family favourite. We were over-the-moon with the response we had to this part of the day last term, so we're hoping that we can help facilitate another super opportunity to chat to families, make links and just spend a bit of time with other members of your BVP family.

Any questions about the day, please do not hesitate to ask using any of the usual email addresses.

What is our Mission Statement anyway.....?

Way back in September, if you came along to one of our 'Welcome Back' meetings, you will have heard Mrs Cooper mention that this year, we are looking at our mission statement and thinking about whether is still reflects.... our mission!

In order to do this properly, we are seeking the views of all our stakeholders- yourselves as families, staff, Governors, the local community and of course our wonderful children.

We are pleased to share via the link here, the questions we would like to ask you so we can start to really understand what BVP means to you. Please do take some time to respond to the questionnaire and then keep an eye out for findings and next steps.

And if you're wondering what the current mission statement is... 'our mission is to provide an education of the highest quality, based on our school values, that is forward thinking and recognises the uniqueness of each individual.'

A shout out to some of our year 6 boys. They took part in the Primary Schools Vertu Cup this morning and won the whole tournament, topping their group! This now means they will experience playing on Birmingham City's pitch at 'St Andrews Stadium' on a final's day. Well done boys!

Congratulations to this week's Attendance Armadillo winners!

Eid- Monday 31st March

Happy Eid to all our families celebrating over the weekend and next week.

If you are observing Eid on a school day, please email [email protected] and your child’s absence will be authorised as a religious observance.

Medical Appointments

As we understand, some medical appointments during the school day are unavoidable, however there is an expectation that routine check-ups and non-urgent medical appointments are made outside of the school day to ensure minimal impact on your child’s learning.

Please remember to provide proof of your child’s appointment– you can  either bring it to the office when dropping off or collecting you child or by sending a screenshot to [email protected]

Thankyou for your support with this.

Keeping Us Updated

If your child is sent home from school because they are poorly, please still call the office the following day with an update on your child’s absence/illness (if they are not back in school the next day). Thankyou

Many thanks and have a great weekend

Ms Walker-Bailey (Attendance Ambassador)

Football Tournament

A shout out to some of our year 6 boys...

They took part in the Primary Schools Vertu cup this morning and won the whole tournament, topping their group. This now means they will experience playing on Birmingham City's pitch at 'St Andrews Stadium' on a final's day. Well done boys!

Parking

An email was sent earlier this week regarding parking on the car park of St. Francis Church.  We would like to remind our families not to park there and be cautious of road markings around the school.

We know parking at the start and end of the school day is tricky, but please don't use the Church car park. If possible, please walk.

Thank you for your understanding and support- the Church are our neighbours and we certainly don't want to jeopardise the relationship.

We are currently working with our local businesses to see if there are happy for us to use their car parks at the start and end of the school day- keep your eyes out for an update on this.

If you have any thoughts or worries about this, please let Mrs Cooper know via [email protected]

Thank You!

Firstly, we want to say a big ‘Thank You’ to the parents who attended our Pastoral Coffee Afternoon this week - it was lovely to see you! As we know, working with our Parents and Carers is key to successfully supporting our children.   It was great to hear what you had to say, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves

The first Coffee Afternoon of the Summer Term will be focused on supporting children and parents to manage transitions- look out for further information in the coming weeks!

Mindfulness

Some of our Children have been learning about the importance and benefits of Mindfulness.  To practice our new skill, we went on a Mindfulness Walk.

"Mindfulness is more than just a quiet moment of reflection. It's a practice that can give children a sense of ease and ownership over their thoughts and emotions.   By promoting a sense of calm, boosting focus, and enhancing emotional regulation, mindfulness lays a strong foundation for a balanced and positive life."

Below we have included some useful links with further information about the benefits of Mindfulness and some fun activities for you to try with your children:

We will be starting our new menu next Tuesday (read below for more information).

Don't forget to pre-book your child's meal option on Arbor! (even if your child is having a Packed Lunch

Top Tip: When selecting your meal choice, tick "Pick for all future available dates" to confirm your selection until the end of term!

Introducing Our New Catering Supplier

We are pleased to inform you that, after a thorough selection process, we have appointed a new catering supplier to provide meals for our children. This change comes as part of our commitment to ensuring that all children receive nutritious, high-quality meals that support their health, wellbeing and overall lunchtime experience at BVP.

Our new catering partner, Coombs Catering Partnership have extensive experience in providing fresh, balanced, and delicious meals in school settings. Their menu will include a variety of healthy options, catering to different dietary needs and preferences.

The new catering service will begin on Tuesday 1st April 2025. If your child(ren) has any specific dietary requirements or allergies, please ensure that this information is up to date on their Arbor profiles.

To ensure that the transition doesn’t cause any issues for our children, there will be no changes to mealtimes, the ordering process or staffing. Meal costs will be reviewed for September 2025 and any changes will be communicated in advance, but for the remainder of this academic year, will stay at the current rate.

Coombs will become more heavily involved with the school community and be available at events, open days, parents’ evenings, etc and will be introducing more theme days and events to get the children more excited about meals at BVP.

We will be keeping a close eye on how the new meals are received by our children and will be seeking their feedback after a couple of weeks.

Our New Menu: Commencing 01/04/2025

Each week, we will be recommending a book for you and your child to read at home...

Reception

A pirate family who discovers more treasure than they bargain for. A great adventure book.

Year 1

Struggle to overcome your worries? Anthony Browne is here to the rescue exploring this and how to overcome them.

Year 2

This is no ordinary cat, and she can’t wait to have an adventure. For those that love ‘The Aristocats’ and ‘Secret Life of Pets’, this is the book for you!

Year 3

One boy, one disappointing superpower. Perfect for fans of Tom Gates, Future Rat Boy and My brother is a Superhero. Can he really save the world with a Pizza?

Year 4

The first in a series of books that will make you laugh out loud. If you are into Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Tom Gates, this is the book for you.

Year 5

If this doesn’t make you cry with laughter, I don’t know what will. Check out Yusuf causing mayhem and havoc at the wrong place and the wrong time.

Year 6

Continuing with the funny books, this won the best laugh out loud book of 2022. A journey of friendship, family, and a miraculously well-timed seagull!

It is the end of a busy week - 4 discos, over 500 kids, 75 Parent Volunteers, 16 Teacher Volunteers, over 100 songs played (of which, at least 50% of them were not recognised by the parents and teachers!)

A huge thank you again to everyone who helped make the discos such a success. Especially, the teachers that volunteered to stick around and help us get to know the kids a bit more.

One for the parents...

Parents are invited to join us for a drink next Friday (4th April). We are meeting at Greidy Street, near Rush/Glasshouse on the canal, followed by the Actress and Bishop, Ludgate Hill, (DJ on from 22:00-02:00) for a boogie. If you’d like to join us, text 07974331102 for more details. This is NOT a PTA event, but a chance for parents to get together outside the school setting.

For the rest of term

10th April Easter Egg Hunt - £1 entry. Straight after school we will be running an Easter Egg Hunt around the School grounds. It always fun, if a little chaotic!

11th April - Easter Bonnet/Hat Parade - whole School, in the middle and lower playground, top gates open at 14:00, parade starts at 14:30. Tea/Coffee/Hot Cross Buns will be available. Also joining us on that day will be Pen Sale, and Bracelet Sale in the playground, run by enterprising kids that want to raise funds for other important charities. If the weather is good we will open up the shop for ice creams.

And finally...

Thankyou to the PTA and all volunteers for making this weeks discos so successful- it has been wonderful to see so many of our children enjoying getting together after school.

Take care all- we hope the sun continues to shine and for all the 'Mums' out there, we hope you have a wonderful Mothers' Day.

See you all on Monday for the penultimate week of the term!

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
