What's Coming Up

Welcome to your newsletter for week ending April 4th

We've ended the week with our second 'Celebrating Our Cultures' day. The focus for this term's event was the theme of 'City of Empire to City of Diversity'. Throughout this term, Years 2,4 and 6 have been working on art, dance and drama projects and our day culminated in a display of Year 2's artwork, drama performances by Year 6 and an amazing and energising 'flash mob' dance by Year 4 who showcased a range of South Asian dance styles. (We even had a 'complaint' from one of our school neighbours... a nearby resident said we needed to turn the music up!)

We then invited families to come and share their favourite dishes, representing their culture, heritage, and firm family favourites. The weather was amazing and it was fabulous to see our school community relaxing, chatting and enjoying each others' food and company. Thankyou so much to the parents and family members who took the time to prepare food to share- it seemed to disappear very quickly and I'm sure it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Next week is the last of the term and we will be focusing on Easter- please read the information below to make sure you don't miss out on our services throughout the week.

What is our Mission Statement anyway.....?

Way back in September, if you came along to one of our 'Welcome Back' meetings, you will have heard Mrs Cooper mention that this year, we are looking at our mission statement and thinking about whether is still reflects.... our mission!

In order to do this properly, we are seeking the views of all our stakeholders- yourselves as families, staff, Governors, the local community and of course our wonderful children.

We are pleased to share via the link the questions we would like to ask you so we can start to really understand what BVP means to you.

Please do take some time to respond to the questionnaire and then keep an eye out for findings and next steps.

And if you're wondering what the current mission statement is... 'our mission is to provide an education of the highest quality, based on our school values, that is forward thinking and recognises the uniqueness of each individual.'

Next Wednesday's Gala Concert

We are very excited for our School Orchestra who are performing at the Birmingham Conservatoire next week (9th April)! We are sure you will all put on a good show.

A reminder for all 'orchestra' parents – you will need to transport children to and from the event. Children need to arrive between 4-4.15pm for rehearsals (please let us know if you'd like to pick children up from school a little earlier on that day, to allow for travelling). Tickets for audience members cost £9.50 per person (excl. booking fee) and can be purchased here. Make sure you select Area Gala 5.

Children will need a packed 'tea' and drink to have between rehearsals and the performance. Children will need to come in smart school uniform and Mrs Cooper, Miss Herborn and Miss Lau will be looking after the children for the event.

If you still have not confirmed whether your child will be attending – please complete this form asap.

Youth Proms

We are aware this year’s initial Youth Proms date clashed with one of our Yr6 productions so, we have changed the date to Tuesday 15th July. It will still take place from 7pm at Birmingham's Symphony Hall. If your child is part of the orchestra or choir and will be attending this event, we will send over further information regarding the performance closer to the time.

myHappymind

We have just come to the end of our' Relate' Module, the younger children will be familiar with Rosie! This module supports children with friendships and how to be a good friend. It focuses on understanding why positive relationships matter and how to build them.

Children have been learning :

-Why and how we relate to others is important

-How 'Active Listening' can help us build positive relationships

-How to see things from a different perspective

Our new Module 'Engage' with Ernie, will begin when we return from the Easter break. This is all about goal setting and developing perseverance, self-esteem and resilience.

Children will learn:

-The three steps to setting a goal and how this will support their happiness and achievements

-Why is it important to have goals we are passionate about

-How to stay resilient in times of challenge

-How when we 'feel good we do good.'

There is lots of information on our website about the programme and we are continually adding new resources to help you understand what your children are learning and how you can support at home - click here https://www.bournvillevillageprimary.org.uk/Page/Detail/myhappymind

Pastoral Coffee Afternoon

Our next pastoral Coffee Afternoon will be taking place on Wednesday 14th May 2.00pm- 3.15pm and will be focused on supporting transitions: how parents can support their children, what we do as a school and additional support we can offer as well as strategies to try. There will also opportunities for parents to share their ideas and experiences.

Dolly & Hillary's Birthday!

On Wednesday 2nd April we celebrated Dolly and Hillary's birthday! Thank you to the children and families for the beautiful birthday cards and tasty treats the Guinea Pigs received! 😊

Please don’t hesitate to contact the team if you are in need of support or advice for your or your child- [email protected]

Have a lovely weekend xx

On Wednesday afternoon our Eco group teamed up with volunteers from the Friends of Bournville Park to plant native tree saplings. Although the ground was hard to dig, they didn't give up making sure the saplings have the best chance to grow. After the Easter holiday they will be teaming up again to help keep the park tidy with 'litter picks'.

Next Week we will be on Week 2.

Don't forget to pre-book your child's meal option on Arbor! (even if your child is having a Packed Lunch

Top Tip: When selecting your meal choice, tick "Pick for all future available dates" to confirm your selection until the end of term!

World Heritage Day Menu

On Thursday 10th April we will be celebrating World Heritage Day. Please see below, the menu for April 10th.

Each week, we will be recommending a book for you and your child to read at home...

Reception

A boy determined to save the world, but only has a short time to do it… I wonder if he gets his lunch in the end??

Year 1

I don’t know about Year 1, but I am terrified of the dark. Read this, and it will help you conquer your fears!

Year 2

A mixture of the most unusual and unexpected features in the animal kingdom. From puzzling toes, weird ears and even the odd bottom!

Year 3

A shortlisted book for The Scholastic Awards, a collection of poems about one wild, hysterical and crazy mum

Year 4

Time to feast on a book for a change. Tuck in to a book that will soon become a movie directed by the Harry Potter crew. It’s sharp, funny and original.

Year 5

A multi award winning book, including the Waterstones Children’s book choice. It will leave you wanting to explore Paris in a different way.

Year 6

Full of characters that you love. Moments of grief and joy. Get stuck into this classic novel, taking you back in time to the life of a boy during World War 2.

Depending on when you are reading this we are either going to be in Greidy Street from 19:00 tonight, in the Actress and Bishop, or back home!

Plenty of interest for the parent social/not a fundraiser event so hopefully next time the dates line up with busy calendars for those that are keen.

Easter Activities

10th April Easter Egg Hunt - £1 entry. Straight after school we will be running an Easter Egg Hunt around the School grounds. It always fun, if a little chaotic!

11th April - Easter Bonnet/Hat Parade - whole School, in the middle and lower playground, top gates open at 14:00, parade starts at 14:30. Tea/Coffee/Hot Cross Buns will be available. Also joining us on that day will be Pen Sale, and Bracelet Sale in the playground, run by enterprising kids that want to raise funds for other important local charities. If the weather is good we will open up the shop for ice creams.

And finally...

You may have noticed that we've popped the information about our mission statement in this week's newsletter again. We had realised that it wasn't easy to spot where the link was and also there was a technical hitch with accessing it. Please do spend a few minutes over the weekend telling us what's important to you, about our school. One intriguing question within the questionnaire is...'If BVP disappeared tomorrow, what would you and your child miss?... We are very interested in reading your responses!

We're also sending out our next general Parent/ Carer Survey next week, so please keep your eyes out for that- we really do appreciate and take notice of your responses.

We hope you have a moment to get some fresh air and relax over the weekend. take care all and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
