Welcome to your newsletter for week ending March 7th

Good afternoon all- it's been a lovely sunny end to the week and it finally feels like Spring may be round the corner! We've had a busy week with 'Stay and Learn' sessions, a football event, a maths competition and then World Book Day! Lots of children (and staff) dressed up and looked amazing. Today, instead of our Values Assembly, year groups recited poems that they have been learning over the last couple of weeks- they did really well and might even be able to recite the poem to you over the weekend!

We've got lots of additional activities coming up so please do keep an eye on the website calendar (under the families tab) as well as the summary below.

Year 4 Maths Competition

This week, our Year 4 mathematicians were invited back to King Edward School to participate in the Grand Final of the Maths competition!

You might remember that before Christmas, the boys qualified in 3rd place in the heats, and out of over 60 schools across the city, only they and eight others remained. The boys did themselves proud, competing in a cross-number and relay event, and although they didn't place in the top 3 this time, they all did amazingly well against some top competition. During the afternoon, they also got to watch a magic show with special guest Barney from House of Maths. Well done boys - we are very proud of you!

World Book Day tokens- £1 Books!

Thank you for taking part in World Book Day this week. For this week's recommended reads, please click here for the World Book Day books that are available to buy using the tokens given to your children. Each page has information about the books that you can get, including other suggestions if you like the books.

Happy Reading!

Please check if photos/ videos are allowed!

It's great having so many opportunities for families to come into school and enjoy aspects of school life alongside our children. Please be mindful that we have  vulnerable children in school and there will be occasions where taking photographs and/or videos will not be permitted.

It should also be made clear to you when you arrive at school for an event whether photography is allowed, but if you are ever unsure, please ask. (And if we are not permitting photos and videos during the 'live' event, we will give you an opportunity to take a photo of your child - or with a group of friends whose parents are happy for photos to be taken- after the event.)

Thankyou for your support and understanding.

We will be on Week 3 next week.

Don't forget to pre-book your child's meal option on Arbor! (even if your child is having a Packed Lunch

Top Tip: When selecting your meal choice, tick "Pick for all future available dates" to confirm your selection until the end of term!

It was great to see M, M, A and L-M from year 6 run such a successful pop-up shop last Friday raising money for Birmingham Hospice through the Guides. They raised over £130 selling hairbands and bracelets, alongside the School Shop selling uniform, ice creams and giving away donated books as part of our Big Book Giveaway.

We strongly encourage any sort of entrepreneurial activity from our children and will support organised groups with a dedicated card machine to take card payments, and a place to set-up alongside the School Shop. We believe that this is an important skill to nurture for those that want to give it a go.

We do have some events coming up so if you want to join the volunteer teams, in particular the disco teams, please do text 07974331102 and we will get you involved.

Friday 14th March - Holi Festival celebrations

Straight after school in the top playground.... Music, dancing, samosas, and for those that want to experiment... some holi colours. Should be fun although this is weather dependant, so fingers cross for sunshine!

And finally...

It's always good to get feedback directly from families - this helps us in our efforts to get things just right for your children. Please remember that as well as emailing [email protected] school leaders are always on the gates at the start of the day and where possible, we're on the playground at the end of the day too.

We hope the sun continues to shine over the weekend and you all get a moment or two to relax.

Take care all and see you on Monday.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
