Welcome to your newsletter for week ending September 20th
It’s been a good week at BVP and we’re ending it with a lovely sunny afternoon... and hopefully lots of children who have enjoyed their second full week of the new school year!
We’ve had our ‘Welcome Back’ meetings this week for families of children in Years 1-6. Thank you to those who attended- we had some good feedback and we hope that if you did come along, you found the evening useful and informative. The presentations will be saved in the Parent Voice page on the website if you couldn’t come along and are interested to hear about our school improvement priorities this year.
As we mentioned in the Welcome Back meetings, our wonderful DHT Mrs Amanda Carter is retiring at the end of this term. Please keep a look out for more information regarding how we are going to celebrate this very important milestone for Mrs Carter and her BVP family.

Talent Shows!
We are so looking forward to the Talent Shows on Monday. We are thrilled to be able to offer our children an opportunity to display their wonderful varied talents. We are also delighted to have secured a venue that gives us the opportunity to offer the rest of the school to see their peers perform. This is testament to the fact that a small idea from two children can grow into a fully formed and spectacular event! If you have any questions over the weekend, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mr Rogers or Mrs Cooper via [email protected] or [email protected]
Don't forget we are encouraging children to come to school wearing gold (or yellow) to support the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group- and please do remember we are asking for a donation of £2 per child for this; only 30 families have contributed so far :(
Last week we met with a group of parents who were passionate about raising the profile of diversity and race, and increase racial awareness for staff and children. We are keen to diarise regular meetings for our newly formed Diversity Group- please look out for more information and dates for when we will meet next.

School dinners
We would like to remind all parents that you can pre-book your children's dinners on the Arbor app! This will help reduce the number of incorrect meal charges. You can select whether your child has school dinner (halal option available as well) or a packed lunch from home (This really helps us in the office when children select a different option).
Instructions:
Once you opened your Arbor App go to Menu>> School Meals>> Select Autumn Term 2024/2025>> Select the chosen day of the week and confirm your child's meal choice>>
If you tick the box to "pick for all future dates" it will apply the same meal choice until the end of term e.g if you tick the box for a Monday meal, it will add it to all Monday's till the end of term.
If you're having any difficulty with this, please contact the school office for assistance!

Music Handover
Our usual staff member who handles music (the lovely Abi Smith) is out of office for the next 6 weeks. In the meantime, the office staff are picking up the music lessons, timetables and any other queries. We kindly ask that parents take this into consideration and that it may take a little longer for queries to be addressed.
Music Instrument Availability
We have the following spaces available for music lessons:
- x2 Bassoon
The spaces will will allocated on a 'first-come-first-serve' basis. If this is something your child is interested in, please email [email protected]

Music cancellations
Children cannot stop/cancel their music lessons now. Lessons have to be carried out until the end of term (20/12/24). If your child no longer wants to play their instrument in January, please send an email to [email protected] so we have written confirmation for January.

At BVP, we are passionately committed to ensuring all of our children and their families receive the support they need to thrive, within nurturing, safe and honest relationships, recognise and celebrates the uniqueness of all. We know that in order for our children to achieve their full potential and thrive, the pastoral care we give is just as important as the academic support.
Our Pastoral Team is Ms Steph Kovacs (Pastoral Lead) and Mr Daniel Purcell (Pastoral Assistant), who are available to offer support and advice to children and their families on a wide range of issues both in school at home. We operate an ‘open -door’ policy and endeavour to be as flexible as possible when meeting our family’s needs. We can be contacted via emailing [email protected] or the main school office, if we are unavailable you can leave a message.
We are also available during our Drop- in sessions Tuesdays after school 3.30pm-4.30pm in the George Building.
We know that first few weeks can be challenging while everyone is settling back into the school routine and getting used to new teachers and rooms. With this in mind please see the links below for advice on how to support your children and two storybooks for you to share with them that we have found very supportive to those struggling with separation anxiety.

And finally...
It’s been great for Mrs Carter and I (Mrs Cooper!) to have a change of ‘gate duty’ in the mornings! We are now alternating between the Woodbrooke Road and Linden Road gates… so if you think one of us is missing, please be reassured that we are there at the 'other' gate if you need us.
Have a good weekend folks, we look forward to seeing you all bright and early on Monday… in your gold or yellow!
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
