Summer Concert Success!
This week 70 of our pupils put on a wonderful summer concert and kick-started the emotional send off for the fabulous Mrs Vaughan. The whole of the BVP family could not be prouder of our budding musicians.
Here is what Mrs Vaughan had to say:
"What an amazing concert we had! Although supported by their peripatetic teachers, this concert was theirs and theirs alone. I stood reflecting how amazing these young people are.
We awarded our Year 6 musicians - who have demonstrated true community musicianship - with this years Music Award. Huge congratulations to every one of them, we are so proud of you.
As this was my final concert at BVPS, it was always going to be emotional. All was fine until our wonderful Year 6 guitar group played a surprise piece - ‘Cavatina.’ This had me in tears and will remain with me for a very long time. The gifts and speeches were humbling and I can’t thank everyone enough. Thank you to Mrs Taylor, Mrs Morson, Ms Scott, Mr Ali, Mr Reed, Ms Reid and all the staff who helped make this such a wonderful occasion."
Music Lessons this term – update for violins and violas
Most music lessons will finish next week (w/c 8th July), however both brass and violins will have their last lesson on Wednesday 17th July. This is due to the fact that there are no brass lessons next week, as Mr Ali is conducting in the Symphony Hall and Ms Scott’s lessons were cancelled this week due to the city-wide transition day.
Stopping Music Lessons
If you are stopping music lessons this term, or leaving school please can you return your instrument to the school office clearly labelled with your child’s name as soon as possible.
Date | Event | Info |
8th July | Choir cancelled | No choir due to Youth Proms Concert |
Youth proms | Youth Proms Choir and orchestra to Symphony Hall (Parents to pick up from Symphony Hall- 21:15) | |

Digital wellbeing is important for our children.
The following poster provides helpful information and tips to help you achieve this:
Make your own ice cream!
Did you know you can make homemade ice cream in a bag in less than 10 minutes with just milk, salt and ice? You don’t even need a freezer! Experiment with different flavours and toppings to find your favourite ice cream dessert.
Ice cream is made up of droplets of fat from milk jumbled up with millions of tiny crystals of ice and pockets of air.
You will need:
- A large bag of ice
- Salt
- Milk – any kind of milk or non-dairy drink will work
- A tablespoon of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla essence – optional
- Resealable bags
- Tea towel
Instructions:
- Pour a cup of milk into a resealable plastic bag. Add the sugar and vanilla essence (or just use flavoured milk ). Make sure the bag is properly sealed.
- Half-fill a bigger sealable bag with ice and add a good amount of salt.
- Put the milk bag into the ice bag and give it a good shake.
- Keep the milk in contact with the ice as much as possible.
- Keep rolling the ice over the milk. The ice in the bag will get VERY cold, so put a towel around the bag to protect your hands.
- Check the milk after 5 minutes. It should be a similar consistency to ice cream. If not, keep going for a bit longer.
Why does it work?
Pure water freezes at 0°C. The addition of salt lowers the freezing point by a few degrees. This means when salt is added to the ice in the outer bag, the ice (which is at 0°C) is above its freezing point, so it starts to melt. Melting needs energy which in this case comes from the milk mixture in the inner bag. Heat energy is absorbed from the milk making ice crystals form between the tiny fat molecules. The more salt that is added to the ice, the lower the freezing point. For the ice to melt, heat must be absorbed from the surroundings ( in this case, the milk mixture ), causing it to freeze.
Pastoral Survey- Thank you!
Thank you to those who were able to complete the Pastoral Survey this week. We have found your feedback extremely useful as we strive to improve Pastoral support. Alongside what’s working well, we are aware of specific areas that require improvement and these are already being addressed for September. These include, ensuring that our families are aware of Pastoral care and have a good understanding of what that means, what support we can provide, as well as making the process clearer for how to access support. We want to positively impact all of our children and we are dedicated to increasing the number of children able to access the Team and our pastoral rooms, (The Cottage, The Den and The Burrow.)

What is Pastoral Care?
Pastoral care is the provision the school makes to ensure the physical and emotional welfare of all children..
A successful pastoral care programme means that your child is safe, happy, listened to, involved in their school community and able to perform to their full potential. Relationships are strong between school and families and difficulties are identified and the necessary steps taken to provide the appropriate support. Pastoral care is more than just the Pastoral Team, it is the ways in which the whole school, through it’s values, curriculum, policies, and relationships with staff, support and develop the mental health and wellbeing of all students. This is from the morning greeting at the door by teachers to celebration assemblies, PSHE lessons and much more.
My Happy Mind
As part of our commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of the school community, in September we are excited to be launching a whole school Mental Health and wellbeing programme. My Happy Mind is NHS backed and it’s mission is to ’give children the preventative strategies, skills and tools they need to thrive.’ Next week we will be sharing full details!

We can be contacted through the main office or directly by email at- [email protected]

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the responsibility of everyone in our school and at all times we consider what is in our children’s best interests. We work to ensure our children are safe and cared for and by doing this we are protecting their health and development and preventing them from harm. If we are worried, we will raise concerns, share information, and take prompt action with the aim of ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
